STC New England Chapter InterChange 2015 Program

This is the program for the Society for Technical Communication (STC) New England Chapter's InterChange conference in 2015. This is a regional conference where technical communicators from Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine meet to network, hear developments in the field, and learn new ideas they can take back to their workplaces. This year, it was held at the University of Massachusetts Lowell in Lowell, Massachusetts.

I was approached by the Chapter president, Nancy Allison, to design the program after she heard my interest in good document design. She and former president Emily Alfson directed me to use my creativity in conjunction with the conference's information on the Chapter website.

I wanted to incorporate the colors of the STC, blue and yellow, into a banner at the top. As a visual nod to the idea of "Interchange," I used the same font found on Interstate Highway signs, "Roadgeek 2005 Series E." I used a two column layout for the program descriptions and council members listings on page 8, and a single column layout elsewhere there is block paragraphs. I also used a table to organize the schedule of events for both days of the conference, March 27 and 28, 2015.

I made multiple drafts of this program in Adobe InDesign and communicated with Nancy and Emily over the course of March 19-23, 2015 to improve the design until they were satisfied. This program and its source file were then sent to Nancy and Emily, who then submitted it to a print shop for production.
